Top Tips for Editing Instagram Photos Like a Pro
Feeling a little intimidated by all the oh-so-perfect photos floating around on your Instagram feed? Just so you know, you don’t have to be a seasoned influencer or professional photographer to snap an Instagram-worthy photo. These top five tips will have you editing your photos like a pro in no time!
- Shoot a Quality Photo
This step is crucial. Even the prettiest filter can’t disguise the poor quality of a photo. Natural light is ideal, but not always available, so use the HDR setting on your smartphone when shooting photos in low light or up close. Once you’ve got the lighting figured out, be sure your framing works for Instagram. Pro tip: Photos that are at least 1080-pixels wide will work the best.
- Upload Photo to Instagram
This is the easy part. Open your Instagram app and tap the plus sign icon in the top right corner, which will then pop up a menu of options for posting. Choose post and then pick your photo from your image gallery. Then, select next to move on.
- Select a Filter
Filters are where the magic happens! You’ll see a variety of filters, which can alter the colors, contrast, brightness, and sharpness of your image in several different ways. Having trouble deciding which one to choose? You can tap on each filter to see a sneak peek of how it will look on your specific photo.
To adjust the intensity of any filter, simply tap it again and move the sliding scale from 0 (no effect) to 100 (full effect). Or, you may opt to use no filter at all, which is where the Instagram editing tool comes into play.
- Adjust Your Photo with Instagram Editing Feature
You’ll see an Edit tab on the bottom right of the screen. Select that to open a menu of valuable editing options, such as adjusting the brightness, contrast, warmth, saturation and many more. Not sure where to start? Check out some inspiration photography and play around with these settings on your own photo until you reach a result that looks how you want it to.
- Post to Your Feed
This is the fun part! Draft your caption using relevant hashtags; tag any friends, collaborators or locations; lastly, tap share to post your photo to the Instagram timeline. If you’re not quite ready to share, simply tap the back arrow twice and you’ll be given the option to save your image and edits to your drafts.
